Interesting things we've encountered in our travels...

Topics

December, 2001:  Near Guadalupe Island, 150 miles off the Mexican coast.  Hello!  We were visited (and eventually boarded) by the US Coast Guard.  This is the high-endurance 378 foot vessel Munro.  They perform anti-terrorism and drug interdiction duties in conjunction with the Mexican government.

We were sailing along at 7 knots in 25 knots of breeze, reasonable sized seas, and they made it easy.  We didn't even have to slow down, they just came alongside in the Mother of All RIB dinghies and boarded on-the-fly.  It made for some interesting conversation with the young Coasties on an otherwise boring day.
