Lacewood

Lacewood is usually from Australia, where it is known as silky-oak.  A similar wood from South America is known as leopardwood.

It is a nice wood to work with, other than that sawn edges will give you splinters.  Very sharp tools are essential.

Lacewood dust is mildly toxic and can cause skin irritation in some people.

Lacewood's distinctive grain and color can be reminiscent of mahogany.  It varies quite a bit, as you can see.
