Travels on Achates
July, 1990. Maupiti, Society Islands, French Polynesia. There were over 85 yachts at Bora Bora (too many for our taste) so we moved all of 27 miles to the little island of Maupiti and had the place to ourselves for the week or two we were here. The Bastille Day festivities were great (see above) and we were the only tourists on the island. Cruisers are herd animals, and if you show a little initiative it's quite possible to find unspoiled places only a short distance from the beaten path. That's what we did. |
