Travels on Achates
October, 1990. Pago Pago, American Samoa. Pronounced "pongo-pongo" with a soft "ng" sound as in song, this harbor is beautiful above the high tide mark, but the water was absolutely filthy. Rumor has it that the place has been cleaned up considerably and is now a nice stop. We're sharing a ship's mooring with Susitna and Gadfly, two other Alaskan boats. |
