TravelsThis section will be fleshed out in the future, but in summary, RED's travels include: 1997: Sidney, BC to Juneau, Alaska via the Inside Passage 1998: Lots of local cruising around Juneau, including a two-week trip to some of our favorite spots on the outside of Yakobi Island 1999: Several week cruise around Admiralty Island in Southeast Alaska and lots of local cruising. Also did a Christmas cruise to Oliver Inlet near Juneau for about a week. Not another soul was there, it was beautiful. 2000: Back down the Inside Passage to Sidney, BC. We spent a year here enjoying the area 2001: Down the West Coast to Bodega Bay, San Francisco, Channel Islands, San Diego, and down the Baja Peninsula 2002: La Paz to the Gambier Islands, Raroia (Tuamotus), Tahiti, Aitutaki (Cook Islands), Fiji, Coffs Harbour, NSW, Australia, Lake Macquarie, Pittwater, Flinders Island (Tasmania) 2003: Tasmania: Port Arthur, Hobart, and local cruising in the area 2004: Hobart to Flinders Island (again), then Eden, Australia. From here we crossed the Tasman to Nelson, New Zealand where we spent nearly a year enjoying the north part of South Island 2005: More South Island, New Zealand, then up the West Coast and over the top to Whangaroa Harbour, Opua, and south as far as Kawau Island. We sailed to Tonga in late April and visited Tongatapu, the Ha'apai Group, Vava'u, and Niuatoputapu. After three months in Tonga we sailed to Savusavu, Fiji. We spent nearly four wonderful months in Fiji, departing for Tarawa, Kiribati in mid-November. 2006: Tarawa, Abemama, and Butaritari, Kiribati. Arrived in Majuro, Marshall Islands in late January for a 4-month stay. Early May we departed for Port Angeles, nonstop, around 4,500 miles by the great circle route. We arrived in early June after an uneventful 29 day passage.
August, 2004. RED in Snug Cove, Ketu Bay, Marlborough Sounds, New Zealand. This is what it's like in the winter; there's not a soul around. It was fabulous. |
