We make and sell the HansenCrafts miniSpinner, a rather nice
little electric spinning wheel, or e-spinner.
An e-spinner, espinner, electric spinner, or electronic
spinner uses an electric motor instead of a treadle arrangement
to drive the moving parts of a spinner. Electronic spinner
implies that the speed control is more sophisticated than a simple
light dimmer or a rheostat.
In that sense, the miniSpinner is technically an electronic
spinner, as it uses a microcontroller (a small, programmable
computer chip) to manage speed and how the foot switch
operates.
How
portable is it? Here's a photo of a cherry miniSpinner in action,
sitting on a folding TV table. It runs on 12 volts, so you can
use it in your car, RV, or boat using the cigarette lighter cord we
ship with it.
A miniSpinner weighs about four pounds and
will fit into a medium sized shoebox. This one is equipped
with the optional WooLee
Winder level-wind flyer, a very popular option.
Why would you want such a thing?
Well, you might have a disability of some type that
prevents you from using a conventional treadle-type wheel.
You might production spin and get tired of using a
treadle. You might want to sit in a more comfortable position or in
a recliner instead of sitting upright at your treadle wheel.
Or, you might want something small that travels more
easily than your 12 to 15 pound, suitcase-sized,
"portable" treadle-type spinning wheel. Something that
would fit in your carry-on bag and leave room for clothing, for
example. Something that you can travel with, hassle-free.
The HansenCrafts miniSpinner is the lightest,
most
compact, technically advanced e-spinner that is commercially available
today. It's also quiet, attractive, and a very capable
spinner.
Oh, yeah. The spinners who have a miniSpinner
absolutely love
it.
